Zizek seems to share the same position in Like a thief in broad daylight when referring to the prospect of automatization of production – as if the silent presuppositions of our everyday reality are losing their symbolic efficiency and slowly evaporating before our very eyes. Capitalism, a system which as Lacan posits is intimately self-destructive (that is, divided against itself) and founded upon the extraction of surplus value from wage labor, is then also facing an identity crisis. When the alienated are ousted out of the system completely, what does that leave left over? In an essay Fabio Vighi reflects that if we consider the ongoing debate between neo-keynesian and neo-liberal economic approaches it is clear that both sides share the same presupposition that capital is somehow an inexhaustible divine resource, which we are not permitted to question the potency or limits of regardless of how much evidence to the contrary we collect. We believe that the act of commitment to change or rebellion in and of itself, regardless of the outcome, is vital insofar as it demonstrates the undeniable value of ideas. To paraphrase Zizek again, ‘Our struggle… is against those in power in general… against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.’ PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe programs consist of rigorous study, avid debate, collective observation, ateliers of anti-propaganda, demonstration grounds, guerrilla activism training, and strike organization. We are of the mindset that a holistic training in these areas will foster a commitment to change and revolution that will be our only way through the coming zero hour. Our current way of life is coming to an end, and we must be prepared to be the agents that will escort society into a more just, equitable, and regenerative future. The school is run by the Seventh International, a collective which aims to create a neo-proletarian union which is of utmost urgency in our current global situation. It combines the ambition of a hyperscalewith a de-escalation of its technicality. It is structured as a metaphor of the city, towers constitute streets, horizontal elements are parks, volumes are districts, and diagonals are boulevards. The Hyperbuilding can be read as the integration of several buildings into a larger whole. The different elements support each other in every sense: architecturally, they form an integrated complex; technically, issues of stability, access, circulation and servicing are organized collectively; It reads, “Each man and woman shall attain what they are inherently able to regardless of circumstance and position. In short, anyone can achieve their wildest imaginations, if they put in the hard work. This dream used to represent hope and opportunity in the Land of Opportunity. Now the dream became a parasitic nightmare.&nbsp; The underprivileged class are brainwashed by the American propaganda to working hard and hoping one day they will be successful. However, the reality is much different than that. The elite and higher class takes advantage of the lower class’s work ethic and they reap the benefits while the poor just work harder. Capitalism enables only the 1% to enjoy a life of leisure and the rest will be trapped by their American Dream.&nbsp; Mission In the Academy, the American Dream gets unmasked and exposed for the nightmare it is, the parasitic nightmare. Here students will discover how the dream exploits the masses to benefit the elites, how to reach their true potential as a group, and ultimately, how to subvert the powers of Capitalism. Here we teach everyone that the answer lies in Non-Work instead of Hard work. This curriculum is based critiques and subversions so&nbsp; students also explore works of art that deal with the same concepts and discover ways to critique it. They will also be able to explore other works of subversions about capitalism and the American Dream. The Club for the Disillusioned Type is a flexible space that supports different types of performances to push and subvert the American Dream. Students will be able debate and partake in other forms of discussion in the forum. The Club also houses the Non-Doing Elevator. The program serves as a forum for brands, designers, eco-conscious consumers, and raw material makers to contemplate and discuss virtuous textiles. only producing 15% on the island. After Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico suffered from a lack of access to fresh produce. The Department of Agriculture in Puerto Rico has been working to support local production to reduce the number of imported foods to 65% As we have learned from Indigenous populations, localizing production is one of the most sustainable and resilient ways of life.&nbsp; The Center for Land Use Reparations situates itself in Puerto Rico to teach the future land-use activists and agriculturalists how to relocalize their production and build upon Idigenous practices that are a part of the rich culture of Puerto Rico. The curriculum is divided into three parts. The first year teaches the history of land use and economic systems. The second year focuses on research for sustainable food production practices. Two major land-use problems come from this. The first being the loss of Indigenous populations, but also their practices, such as horticulture. The second is the increase in land intensive agriculture on the various plantations. But, the land intensive practices were also increasing in other countries, such as China which was not able to colonize other parts of the world for resource production. This separation between Britain and China, who were both reaching the “Ecological Cul-de-sac” of resource scarcity is coined as the “Great Divergence,” by Kenneth Pomeranz. When Britain was able to colonize the West, we see the rapid advancement of Capitalism for the British and other European countries that did not happen in other parts of the world. There is a very deep relationship here of land-use patterns, the economy, and the environment. The architecton form allows for a great pattern of diversity throughout the site for each year of the curriculum. During this time, there’s an advancement of technology and societal consensus that will be able to take advantage of the raw materials need to support the running of the social machine [in this case, the campus]. Inspired by W. Paul Cockshott and Allin Cottrell’s book “Towards a New Socialism”, the planning tectonic takes off from the new form of socialism - a decentralized, deconcentrated social economic mechanism. In this campus, resources and power are dynamically distributed through a decentralized distributing network. Buildings are not assigned with dedicated subjects, functions, and adjacencies. With the ubiquitous outdoor and indoor workspace, students and faculties will have extensive discussions about all variants of planning configurations. Through the experiment of model-scale bakeoffs, real-scale structures will also update to its most desired location and orientation. In the IDI, students and faculties have the equal ownership of their space and activities. Administrative decisions are rotated through different departments with everyone’s input. Individuals learn to take the responsibilities of behavioral conduct through this process. Debate and critical oppositions are encouraged, and the process will be documented through the calculation of the decentralized network for final participatory decisions. <img width="8000" Information Generation &nbsp; &nbsp; The recent outbreak of the COVID-19 renewed the world's understanding of healthcare emergency. With globalization, viruses like this cause terror, uncertainty and great financial disruption. While there are joint efforts between countries to find cures and contain COVID-19, there are still great uncertainties. Information is easily manipulated by malicious individuals to create fear, segregation, and drive people apart. It is key that the public is adequately educated on these health concerns like virus outbreaks, containment and the spread of virus before it even happens. Although predicting virus outbreaks is nearly impossible, it is essential that the people is equipped with adequate knowledge so that individuals cannot use ignorance as a media to spread rumor and cause public fear and terror that further exacerbates the situation. If information is analyzed through a more critical lens, people would not face such a panic when presented with distorted information. Instead, they will be able to critically analyze the information presented and remain calm during crisis like this. The Laboratory of Information Generation is where students learn about generating information in a controlled lab setting and then applying this knowledge into real world scenarios. Laboratory Overview Laboratory of Information Identification There are three parts to this program. The three groups of students will participate in the same online community where they share and exchange information. The goal of the two information generation groups is to outperform the other. The information analysis group will be the ultimate judge because they will identify which information is genuine and which is not. The group that is identified as genuine will win the competition. They will perform exercises that take real work examples and analyze which part of information they can believe to be true and which part they can not. Information Generation [False] A laboratory where false information is generated and exchanged within a larger online community. Students are split into smaller groups where they specialize in different types of false information associated to various topics: politics, sports, entertainment, etc. they will also learn to produce false information in different mediums: text, image, video, vocal (spread by word-of-mouth), etc. The ultimate goal of this program is to create a safe space for students to learn to generate these false information and thus be able to identify them in the real world. Welcome to the Jungle The framework of the main building is merely a footprint to manipulate. Students, faculty and visitors are truly the masters of their own curricula and are able to build, cut, destroy, reshape, rip, sculpt, explore the building to reflect the idea of resourcefulness. Whether made of the earth itself, the wood of the Puerto Rican flora, or the waste of their own labor, the building is truly made of what the inhabitants seek. Battleground: an area of conflict With conflict, there is “a mental struggle resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, wishes, or external or internal demands,” an opportunity for lessons to be learned.&nbsp; The regimented designation of a battleground, ergo, is a place to learn, an expanded classroom where the technique you learn can save your life. With the incentive of survival, cooperation and craftsmanship can endure the test of time. The goal of the battleground is for students to leave with a greater appreciation for the resources they use on a daily and life-long basis. Like the earth itself, the school is flexible and everchanging. Camp Coquí The origin of human settlement, a relatively virgin land fertile with opportunity. Camp Coquí is a simulation of these conditions, but they are also accompanied by the peril in store for humans trying to survive. It is in this deep citadel of trees where survivalist training is instigated; students will learn how to create the framing for tents, bonfires for maintaining warmth, and tools from the abundant wood. As the first stage of human settlement, Camp Coquí is often the most challenging due to the amount of physical and mental endurance to continue their curriculum. Sandbox The real battleground where humanity gains an advantage over the nature, but the latter is still necessary for survival.A transition arena arisen from Camp Coquí, the Sandbox is an area where students test their craft learned in a topographically varied environment. Here, students can use the lumber they collect from Camp Coquí, the currently residing trees of the plain, or the exposed earth of the pits to create sculptures and shelter. The most exposed area due to human intervention, the Sandbox is where the body is pushed to the limit through cobb construction in the sand, wood harvestation, and terrace parkour. Of course, the key for students is to collaborate and aid one another in their conflict with the environment around them. The WHY The real lab of the BOHS’ academic center is just as liable to change as the remainder of the battleground. Despite being a home for education, it can be a building one day and a mud house the next.Students who work with wood build with wood, students who construct with cobb can construct, and students who create with bones can create. Other coursework includes the use of resources to build crafts and furniture, filming and documenting scenery to promote conservation, and physical education. Ergo, students can use the environment to suit the nature of their studies (exploration). The campus and curricula can only endure through the power of its students and the fire within them to thrive. Precedent: Scaffolding Prior to the fruition of BOHS, a research project to hone in onto the theme of environmental cohesion was conducted. The goal of the study (codenamed Scaffolding) was to create a key form to be inhabited by students and faculty who will inevitably change the landscape and building itself. BOHS, as a case of eternal learning through sporadic Some of the following questions were used to address the search of an ideal form: What form can allow lifeforms to hang onto and alter the form itself?How should the form react to lifeforms and how they approach the form? What will the form look like in five years? Ten years? Twenty years?&nbsp; Will the form still exist? Though the cantilevering masses and loops of the Hemeroscopium had been founded as the default form, structures formed and based off of the Hemeroscopium are expected to change. The constant of life is change, therefore the masses may fall or the cantilevers may slump. in developed countries but also in developing countries due to social media outlets, advertisements, and mass production. Consumerism is defined as buying unnecessary goods to fulfill certain psychological needs. CAUSES OF DIGITAL CONSUMERISM The rise of consumerism can be substantially attributed to social media outlets, social pressure and the advance of AI technology. Starting with Facebook, Instagram and other platforms, influencers constantly post images of lavish lifestyles to maintain a certain social status. In fact, many bloggers and vloggers live off many followers by post fancy, unnecessary things. As followers, after being immersed by these false advertisements and glamorous pictures, they are mentally pressured to buy all these unnecessary objects. Further, with the advancement of AI, data analysts track consumers’ shopping preferences and habits based on their online dossier. A lot of consumers are unconsciously victimized when computers “force” them to buy their “desirable” products. As a result, they will subconsciously spend their money on those advertised even beyond their capability to afford. building prototype - mat building. By abstracting the masses and analyzing the forms in presentation of landscape collages and&nbsp;axons, I found some common qualities that these projects all share. Most of the projects are designed and proposed in the 1960s to 1970s. Areas like Japan and Europe were experiencing tremendous social and economic growth. Mat buildings are one of the ways architects experiment for new was of living and efficient use of land. There are certain degree of indeterminacy of size and shape of the unit forms, flexibility of building use and mixture of programs. Contextual elements and landscape also play important role in this archetype. By consistently teaching and emphasizing the wrongs of racial injustice. Enabling the ability to forget or claim naivete. Complacency and denial are taken off the table when the issue is being constantly placed in the line of sight. What better to do this with than art? We are quite literally raiding the mind with art. Students are taught how to be loud with their work, to grab attention and remove people from their regularly scheduled programming. We are waking people up out of their blissfully ignorant slumber with each piece of art that is produced. The work does not stop here. In the outdoor learning space adjacent to the sculpture garden you will see programs like the “Blue Eyes Brown Eyes” experiment created by Jane Elliott. In these programs students of all ages, races, and backgrounds are brought together to break down the roles of the oppressors and the oppressed. The two main towers hold studios fit for many types of art to be created. Glass openings in the floor allow artists to view the work from their peers and possibly even be inspired by them. The bridging polyform structure in between the two towers holds a small gallery. The art created and showcased at the Center is supplemented with programs to uplift the oppressed. The final stage in this program concludes with betterment. The images below are taken from La Cuarenta. This is the land in between the main building of the RAID Center and Lotus(Boundless). La Cuarenta is where the betterment happens. Reparations. You will see minorities are taught their rights, voter registration, meaningfull skills and like programs centered on the betterment of minority people, making the difference between equity and equality. Lotus is a gallery space that opens up depending on its use. We want to bring attention to these issues of feminist representation. &nbsp; Workshops of Feminist Representation will focus on creating thoughtful ways to present unique works of art that can spark conversations and cirtiques on today’s visual culture of women, their work, and their bodies. These programs explore the bodily nature of feminist artworks, more specifically their performative and material boundaries. This is in hopes to disrupt our ability to empathize with these visual works and images, and to rethink our ideas of what the idealized image of a woman is. From performances and artwork that bluntly address female objectivity, students can explore different ways of representing their female perspective into society.
